Blessed is He who created in the heavens constellations, and placed amongst them a [radiant] lamp and a light-giving moon. And He it is who causes the night and day to succeed each other, [revealing Himself in His works] for those who desire to reflect or be thankful. And the slaves/servants of the Most Gracious are those who walk gently [and humbly] on earth and who, when the foolish addressed them, they say, “Peace.” Surah Al-Furqan: 61 – 63
This is one of 15 autistic led projects supported by the NatureAware Project. The NatureAware Project is delivered by Scottish charity SWAN, in partnership with Earthself Community Interest Company. It is funded by the Scottish Government’s Climate Engagement Fund.
The objectives of this blog is to help people:
- build an intimate connection with
- be conscious of nature no matter where we are, what we are doing
- be conscious of the impact of our activity on nature
This blog gets its title from the description of the servants of God, the Most Gracious. They walk gently and humbly on this earth and their impact is only positive on our environment.
This positive impact on our environment is in line with the goal set by the Nature Positive Initiative1. The goal is to help nature recover and halt and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030.
The Author
As an autistic Muslim, I am a passionate advocate of environmental and social justice since young. I strive to live according to the description of those who walk gently on this earth as much as I can.
Professionally, I work at the intersection of environmental impact, portfolio analytics, and innovation. I turn complex data into clear actionable insights, bridging science, data, and business. Through my participation in the Food Data Transparency Partnership, I help shape the frameworks that define how we measure and act on climate and sustainability.
Outside of work, I am a keen gardener and a practitioner of permaculture. I regularly participate in conservation and rewilding efforts in Scotland and beyond. You can usually find me wondering in the hills around Edinburgh and further afield.
I have also been blogging from 2006 and you can find some of my writings/musings here at shidrati.blogspot.com and those archived at geocities.com. Most of the writings are on topics that I was interested in.
My videos can be found on the Youtube link, here.
