The objectives of this project is to help people:
- build an intimate connection to nature
- be conscious of nature no matter where they are and what they are doing
- be conscious of the impact of their activities on nature
The project consists of blog posts that guide and equip people with tools to build that nature connection. The tools are founded on four key principles:
- silence/stillness
- observation
- reflection
- acting on the reflections
While the project is ongoing, I carried out a study to assess the impact of practising to build the connection on
- participants’ overall level of nature connection
- participants’ awareness of their impact on nature
- benefits of nature on participants’ well being
in November – December 2024 and January 2025. At the end of November, participants were invited to
- fill up an initial survey to get a baseline of their bond with nature, awareness level, and well being level
- read the blog posts
- and choose an aspect of nature they want to connect with
In December, participants carried out either
- a ten minute daily practice or
- a half hour twice weekly practice
where they
- practised the art of stillness and silence
- observed the aspect of nature they have chosen with one or more of their senses
- reflected on their observations
At the beginning of January, they completed 4-5 weeks of the practice and filled another survey. This new survey assessed how effective the practice is in three key metrics above:
- bond with nature
- impact on nature
- personal well being
Results from the two surveys were anonymised before being published. The results can be found in the following post.
